The pair was very involved in the activities of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Montgomery Chapter (NAACP). Mrs. Parks held the position of chapter secretary in addition to her duties as an assistant tailor.

In later years, she served on the NAACP Youth Council as an advisor. Rosa Parks was at least twice prevented from exercising her right to vote due to the fact that she was black. Despite this, she worked with the Voters League to educate black people on how to register to vote.
