A new photo editing tool, “DragGAN,” that enables users to interactively modify photographs using artificial intelligence (AI), has been described in a paper by a group of researchers.

With the help of the user-friendly AI tool DragGAN, you can drop a point on a picture and simply drag it to change its composition and all of its pixels.

DragGAN lets users change the structure of an image and whole pixels by dropping a point on it. It differs from other popular generative AI image tools such as Dall-E and Midjourney, which are capable of processing highly specific prompts but cannot accurately produce desired poses and layouts.

According to the report, “Through DragGAN, anyone can deform an image with fine-grained control over where pixels go, thus manipulating the pose, shape, expression, and layout of diverse categories such as animals, cars, people, landscapes, etc.”

The Tool DraGAN Is The Brainchild Of Google, Max Planck And MIT CSAIL

The Max Planck Institute of Informatics, the MIT CSAIL, and a team of Google researchers all contributed to the research publication. When summarising a research study on Twitter, Bilawal Sidhu noted that dragGAN “allows you to reshape images interactively, much like pulling on points in the image to move them exactly where you want.”

“Our method may deform in accordance with the rigidity of the item, like the bending of a horse leg, and even hallucinate occluded content, like the teeth inside a lion’s mouth. The research article stated, “We also design a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for users to interactively do the alteration by merely clicking on the image.

The Need for Photo Editing Tools

According to the research article, creating visual content that satisfies user expectations frequently necessitates flexible and exact control over the position, form, expression, and layout of the generated objects.

Existing methods, which frequently lack flexibility, precision, and generality, “gain controllability of generative adversarial networks (GANs) via manually annotated training data or a prior 3D model,” the paper claims.

According to the researchers, their study explored a powerful but largely unexplored method of controlling GANs, namely, dragging images to precisely reach target points.

They proposed DragGAN, which has two main parts, to accomplish.

The Two Part Include:

1) A feature-based motion supervision that directs the handle point towards the target position

2) A novel point-tracking approach that makes use of discriminative generator features to maintain localization of the handle points’ positions.
