Founding and Early Years
The club was founded by Ziya Songülen, Ayetullah Bey, and Necip Okaner in the Fenerbahçe neighborhood of Istanbul’s Kadıköy district. The founders were inspired by the lighthouse in the area, which led to the club’s name translating to “Lighthouse in the Garden.” The first team included notable players like Galip Kulaksızoğlu, Hassan Sami Kocamemi, and Nasuhi Baydar.
Fenerbahçe joined the Istanbul Football League in 1909 and quickly rose to prominence by winning several championships. The team’s success continued through the 1910s and 1920s, including a remarkable season in 1922-23, where they scored 58 goals without conceding any.
