The Goonies house is for sale

The Victorian house is located in a quiet town called Astoria in Oregon and has views of the Pacific Ocean where it meets the Columbia River.

Built in 1896, the home at 368 38th Street has two floors, a white wooden exterior and a porch that wraps all the way around the outside.

Inside, there are four bedrooms, and the whole thing has been kept pretty old school with original wooden flooring and historic decor.

However, there are a few modern touches too, such as a new bedroom in the attic and up-to-date kitchen appliances as the owner has renovated the property.

It’s being sold by John L. Scott Real Estate as the current owner is looking to downsize, and you can see photos of the whole home here.

Astoria is a tourist trap for Goonies fans

The 1985 movie has turned the quiet Oregon town into a tourist trap and fans continue to visit the house almost 40 years after the film’s release.

A woman called Sandi Preston currently owns the house, and she bought it in 2001, but once told The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette it’s been “difficult” to live there.

That’s because thousands of fans visit the town every year to catch a glimpse of the home where Mikey, Brand, Data and Chunk spent time in the movie.

Sandi actually used to let fans come inside her home but stopped doing tours as there were just too many people coming.

“There is someone here 24/7,” she told Oregon Live in 2013. “At midnight, I can still see flashlights”.

The worst days were Goonies anniversaries, like 20 years in 2005, 25 years in 2010 and 30 years in 2015, when thousands would visit.

A realtor told Oregon Live that Sandi is looking for a buyer who will “love the property as much as she has for 21 years”.

“It’s up to the new owner to make it look like the movie if that’s their joy or keep the upgrades and restoration,” they continued.

Other movies filmed in the Oregon town

The Goonies isn’t the only movie that’s been filmed in the small town, which has a population of just 10,000 – although it is the most famous.

Into The Wild, a 2007 biographical drama about a man called Christopher McCandless who hiked across North America in the 90s, was filmed there too.

Plus, Astoria appears in the 1990 action-comedy Kindergarten Cop, which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as Detective John.

Green Room (2015), Short Circuit (1986), The Guardian (2006), Free Willy (1993) and Worth (2020) all had scenes in the Oregon town as well.
