The Swiss authorities have announced that similar to this year, the country has decided to set the quota for third-country qualified workers to 8,500 for 2023.

According to the Federal Council of Switzerland, the decision for the number of qualified workers from third countries that will be permitted to reach Switzerland in 2023 for work purposes was taken at a meeting held on November 23, during which the partial revision of the Ordinance of Admission, Residence and Employment was passed, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“The Federal Council has decided to release a quota with the same maximum numbers as in 2022 so that Swiss companies can continue to recruit the skilled workers they need from countries outside the EU/EFTA in the coming year,” the statement of the Federal Council reads.

The Federal Council explained that it decided to take such a decision in order to help the strengthening and stabilisation of different economic sectors by admitting workers from third countries, including those from the United Kingdom.

Of the total number of third-country nationals that will be admitted to Switzerland for work purposes, the Swiss Federal Council said that 4,500 nationals of third countries will be able to be recruited with a B residence permit and another 4,000 with a short-term L residence permit.

The Federal Council further pointed out that the maximum number of EU/EFTA service providers who are permitted to remain in Switzerland for a deployment duration of over 90 and up to 120 days, will also remain unchanged.

According to the Federal Council, next year, a total of 3,000 units will be available for residents who will remain in Switzerland for a short-term period and another 500 units will be available for residents. The same highlighted that similar to the previous years, these quotas will be released on a quarterly basis to the cantons.

In addition to the above-mentioned, it has been revealed that starting from January 1, 2021, separate quotas will apply to nationals of the UK as the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons between Switzerland and the UK will no longer apply.

Previously, SchengenVisaInfo.com reported that nationals of the UK would continue to be permitted to work in Switzerland for up to three months per year without needing to obtain a permit. The news was announced by the UK government, which said that the country and Switzerland agreed on the extension of the Services Mobility Agreement for another three years.
