Costco Hours

Costco is definitely a handy one-stop-shop for all of your shopping requirements, and because it is a members-only club, you may select from a range of membership tiers that best fit your needs and those of your family.

But what about the benefits of their highest-level Executive Membership—do consumers profit from different shopping hours? I looked into Executive Memberships more, and this is what I discovered.

Hours for Executive Membership in 2021

As of 2021, Costco does not provide special hours for Executive Members to shop before the general public. This used to be a benefit for members of that tier, however the practice appears to have been phased off gradually in many stores around 2015.

Do Executive Members Get a Head Start at Costco?

Executive Members used to be permitted to enter the store one hour before Gold Star Members, allowing them extra time to shop when there were less people in the store.

Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, since all Costco members, regardless of membership level, are permitted to enter the store at opening time—10:00 a.m. on weekdays and Sundays, and 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
Some warehouses strive to open 15 minutes earlier the advertised time, especially on the day before a major holiday.

However, this varies by region, and doors can be kept locked until the advertised opening time.

What is the Executive Membership at Costco?

The Executive Membership is Costco’s most expensive membership option.

Members can upgrade to this tier by paying an additional $60 on top of their yearly membership price, bringing the total cost of an Executive Membership to $120.

In addition, you will receive a free spousal card!

What Are the Advantages of a Costco Executive Membership?

Customers who upgrade to the Executive Membership receive benefits that other members do not receive.

While the extra hour of shopping time is no longer accessible, these members will still enjoy the following benefits:

  • Additional Service Savings—Executive Members receive additional discounts on auto maintenance, insurance, real estate and mortgage programs, roadside assistance, and other business services.
  • Extra Discounts and Exclusive Offers
  • 2% Cash Back—This applies to the vast majority of your purchases, with certain restrictions such as alcohol and cigarettes. To make this benefit pay for the $60 premium you paid for this tier, you must spend at least $3,000 a year, which is typical for a family’s food and household goods.

Operating Hours for Seniors 60 Member

While the coronavirus epidemic persists, Costco Wholesale will maintain restricted operation hours for members 60 and older, as well as susceptible consumers. After announcing plans to discontinue senior hours on July 26, the store has reversed course, cutting them from five days a week to twice-weekly events. “Rather than terminating, we’ll keep senior hours open on Tuesdays and Thursdays until further notice,” Costco’s chief financial officer, Richard Galanti, told TMZ.ng.

Starting the week of July 26, most clubs will have a 9 to 10 a.m. designated shopping hour for elderly shoppers, members with impairments, or those who are immunocompromised. The store updated its COVID-19 updates page on Tuesday and Thursday.

According to Johns Hopkins University statistics released last week, the incidence of new coronavirus infections is increasing in all 50 states, and hospitalizations are increasing at an alarming pace.
Costco, like the majority of the country’s major food shops, began designating special shopping hours in March 2020 to assist people deemed most vulnerable and at-risk for COVID-19 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Costco’s senior hours began as a twice-weekly event and rapidly expanded to three times each week. When clubs restored normal hours in early May 2020, most locations extended senior hours to weekday mornings. Last summer, Costco announced intentions to reduce the special hours to twice a week beginning in July 2020, but the hours were not reduced as cases increased. Instead, Costco stated at the time that the hours would remain in effect forever.

Walmart, Target, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and Aldi are just a few of the stores that still advertise special senior hours on their websites. The hours and requirements differ depending on the region. Trader Joe’s has reduced senior hours at the majority of its locations.

Senior hours at Costco and exceptions

Costco’s dedicated hour for older customers, disabled members, and immunocompromised persons is now offered twice a week from 9 to 10 a.m. With a few exceptions, warehouses throughout the United States and Puerto Rico are closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Costco has a list of all locations’ hours. Members and guests who do not satisfy the criteria will be denied admission. The clubs mentioned as exceptions on the COVID-19 updates page are as follows:

With a few exceptions, Costco stores in California

Culver City: Special hours are 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Temecula: Special operation hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

With one exception, the Hawaii Costco club

Iwilei (Honolulu): Special hours are 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

With a few exceptions, there are Costco clubs in New York.

Brooklyn: Special hours are 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Westbury: Special hours are 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Is Costco congested? Wait times and crowd tips are now available.

The lineups at Costco are starting to resemble those at Disneyland these days, but we’re here to assist! IsItPacked.com is now offering real-time crowd tracking of Costco locations in several U.S. cities, with coverage increasing nationally in the coming weeks. Costco was our most requested store, so we’re thrilled to finally provide coverage, especially in these trying circumstances.

The Costco Crowd Tracker displays the current, average recorded wait time at nearby shops. The Tracker attempts to find the optimum (least crowded) time of day to visit, as well as the best days of the week to attend for less people and shorter lines.

The Tracker also displays projected wait times for each store in the area, as well as live crowd updates and photographs. Estimated wait times are based on real user reports and historical data, if available.
If you’re presently in line at a Costco or have already visited, please use the “Submit a Wait Time” button to let us know about current conditions—or leave a crowd tip to offer your expert advise on shopping at your local store. Costco’s real-time crowd tracking is currently in beta testing, so please bear with us if there are any problems or errors in wait times at any locations. As we collect and evaluate more data, our accuracy will improve.

Tips on Beating The Crowds at Costco

Before you go to your local Costco warehouse, here are some pointers to help you avoid the crowds and long lines:

1. The line is really shorter than it appears.

Don’t be alarmed if you notice a large line of consumers with shopping carts queued up outside or looped around the building. Costco is presently following social distancing standards and restricting the number of members permitted inside the warehouse at one time. As a result, while the queue may appear to be something out of a Disney movie, it moves swiftly.

2. Visit in the afternoon.

If possible, avoid going in the early. Crowds tend to peak before noon, especially at the start of the day. If you can postpone your Costco visit until the afternoon or closer to closing time in the evening, lines will be significantly less.

3. Visit during the week and avoid Mondays and Sundays.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are often the least busy days of the week for Costco visits. Sundays and Mondays are usually busier.

4. If you are a healthcare worker or a first responder, you can skip the line.

Healthcare personnel (including pharmacists and any hospital staff with a hospital ID) and first responders (such as police officers, EMTs, and firemen) will be given preferential access for a limited time! Simply proceed to the door and produce your Costco membership card as well as formal identification of your position to be pushed to the head of the queue.

5. Seniors get special hours.

Costco warehouses are presently opening at 8 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for members 60 and older, as well as those with disabilities. Please keep in mind that visitors will not be authorized. Avoiding large crowds is a passion of ours—and, for the time being, a need for everyone—so we hope we can assist you in making your next Costco trip a speedy and safe one. Just remember to remain patient and keep your distance out there.

This Is the Best Time to Shop at Costco

Given that Costco is one of America’s most popular grocery shops, it almost looks as though your local Costco warehouse is always swamped with people. People zipping in and out of “activity alley” in search of bargains, peering into the frozen food area for any fresh delicacies, or even getting in the food court queue for a fast lunch. You’re probably going to the shop at one of the busiest periods of the week, such as late afternoon after regular working hours, or on weekends when people are storing up for the week ahead. The trick is to go to Costco during less busy times of the week, which is why we chose weekday mornings as the very best time to go. The trick is to go to Costco during less busy times of the week, which is why we chose weekday mornings as the very best time to go shopping at Costco.

Costco is less crowded on weekday mornings because the bulk of people are at work during that time. The earlier you go in the morning, the fewer people you’re likely to encounter pulling trolleys along the aisles.

However, if you want to enjoy the whole Costco experience while avoiding crowds, we recommend shopping at Costco at about 10:30 a.m. on weekdays. Why? Because if you want to try any of those famous samples, you’ll want to be at Costco when they start to appear. (Related: Nutritionists Say Costco Foods Should Be Avoided at All Costs)

Food samples at Costco were temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 limitations, but they are again back in full swing—and you don’t want to miss out.
Costco generally serves samples between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. during the day.
The schedule may differ from Costco to Costco, but this is typically when you can anticipate samples to be served at the warehouse. Not only are there fewer people on weekday mornings, but all of the samples on display are first come, first served. You may stop at Costco around 10:30 a.m., do any necessary shopping, and then hit a few sample carts to enjoy some wonderful items before checking out—and before the rest of the sample-loving people arrive.

Furthermore, if you’re lucky, certain Costco staff may begin setting up their stations before to the 11 a.m. start time. You might even be able to get a sample—or two—while shopping first, making it even simpler to avoid the throng before 11 a.m.

So, if you have a free morning during the week and need some goods, swing by your local Costco and enjoy a quieter, less busy warehouse. And if you’re stuck on ideas, here are 8 Costco buys that are “flying off the shelves” for the start of summer, according to customers.
