Billy Graham was born into Graham’s family on 7th November 1918 In Charlotte, North Carolina. Born to a farmer, he’s the firstborn of his parents – William and Morrow Graham. His parents were both members of Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (ARPC). He was a book enthusiast. He graduated from high school in May 1936 at Sharon High School.

Billy Graham was converted to Christ after a series of rival meetings held in Charlotte by Mordecai ham. He got into college at Bob Jones College (Now Bob Jones University), shortly after a semester, he lost interest due to the excessive legalistic tradition practiced in the University. After a while, he transferred to Florida Bible Institute (now Trinity College)  Located in Tampa, FLorida, United States. While he was still in school, he was ordained a minister and preached his first sermon at BBC (Bostwick Baptist Church) in Palatka, Florida. He graduated with a degree in Bachelor of theology In 1940 at Florida Bible Institute. To further his education, Graham enrolled at Wheaton College and earned a degree in anthropology in 1943.

He married his wife, Ruth Bell in same year.

As a devoted and committed minister, Graham gathered experience and knowledge to deliver a direct message of sin and salvation without condensation.

In 1943, immediately after college, Graham was appointed to serve as a pastor at First Baptist Church in Western Springs, Illinois.

Graham’s earliest investment as an evangelist was his radio ministry, songs in the night. In 1944, in partnership with the baritone, George Beverly Shea, Graham launched Songs in the Night.

In 1948, Billy Graham established Moderno Manifiesto also known as Billy Graham’s rule. Moderno Manifesto is a Christian practice established with a code of ethics for men to avoid spending time alone with women who are not their wives. This practice was initiated to protect against sexual temptation, accusations of financial and sexual harassment, etc.

Billy Graham, As of 1948, became the youngest president of Northwestern Bible College. He held this position till 1952 when he resigned. Graham’s initial intent was to become a chaplain in the armed forces but shortly after applying for a commission in the military, he contracted mumps. After a while, he joined the staff of a new organization to become a full-time evangelist at YFC (Youth for Christ). At YFC, he became an itinerant evangelist where he traveled throughout the United States and Europe for evangelism.

 In 1948, Billy Graham decided to focus mainly on Northwestern college hence he had to resign from Youth For Christ (YFC). Later In 1952, he resigned from being a president at Northwestern College to focus mainly on preaching.

With Graham’s heartfelt, genuine and distinct gospel sermons, it did not take long for people to identify him. In 1949, Graham was invited to preach on a crusade titled Los Santos Revival. The crusade was beyond the norm. The revival program was even extended to 5 weeks.

Graham gradually gained exposure and stature as he held and was featured on many nationally recognized crusades in Boston, Los Santos, Washington, and other major cities.

Graham started preaching in Los Angeles, where his crusade brought him national attention and he gradually acquired fame in no small measure. William Randolph Hearst was impressed by how the young evangelist vibrantly preached, without hesitation, he Instructed his newspapers to puff him. 

In a research study, Graham has preached to over 215 million people in 185 countries and territories worldwide. With this record, it appears that he has preached to more people than anyone else has done.
