Cardi B: Who Is She?

Cardi B originally captured the world’s attention on social media with her harsh and candid stance on life as a stripper. She began appearing on VH1’s reality show Love & Hip Hop: New York in 2015 and quit the show in 2017 to pursue music full-time. That same year, Atlantic Records released her No. 1 song “Bodak Yellow,” and in 2019, she won a Grammy for her debut album, Invasion of Privacy. In September 2017, she secretly married Migos member Offset.

Cardi B Early Childhood and Parents

Cardi B, born Belcalis Almanzar on October 11, 1992, was born and reared in The Bronx, New York, and also spent a lot of time with her grandmother in adjacent Washington Heights. Cardi is of mixed Caribbean ancestry, with her mother being Trinidadian and her father being Dominican.

She was a member of the Bloods gang throughout her adolescence and attended Renaissance High School For Musical Theater & Technology. Cardi B opted to become a stripper to escape poverty and an abusive relationship, and she has openly said how pleased she is of her decision.

“It actually saved my life in a number of ways. I returned to school when I began stripping “She stated.

Despite dropping out of school, Cardi B was able to carve her own path to the top, first through social media (through Vine and Instagram), then as a reality star (Love & Hip Hop: New York), and finally as a music business force.

Cardi B admitted to drugging and robbing men while working as a stripper in an Instagram Live video that went viral in March 2019. She addressed the issue on social media a few days later but did not apologize, instead stating, “I did what I had to do to survive.”

Cardi B’s commercial breakthrough single, “Bodak Yellow,” was released in August 2017 and quickly became a viral success, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100, the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and becoming triple platinum. When “Bodak Yellow” reached No. 1, it created rap history, since the previous female solo rapper to do so was Lauryn Hill in 1998 with “Doo Wop (That Thing).”

Cardi B Stage Title

Cardi B has disclosed that her name is derived from the alcoholic beverage Bacardi. “Because my sister’s name is Hennessy, everyone used to call me Bacardi… then I abbreviated it to Cardi B, and the ‘B’ stands for anything… depending on the day,” she explained.
From ‘Boom Boom’ to ‘Gangsta B*tch Music, Vols. 1 & 2’, Cardi B’s songs and albums range from ‘Boom Boom’ to ‘Gangsta B*tch Music, Vols. 1 & 2’.

Cardi B debuted her musical abilities on Jamaican musician Shaggy’s remixed track “Boom Boom” in the fall of 2015. She released her debut mixtape, Gangsta B*tch Music, Vol. 1, in March 2017, and in September she joined with other hip-hop artists to make the KSR Group collection Underestimated: The Album, which contained her track “What a Girl Likes.”

2017 was expected to provide even more chances. In February, the rapper not only released her second mixtape, Gangsta B*tch Music, Vol. 2, but she also signed her first big record deal with Atlantic Records.

Cardi B added to her breakthrough that year by collaborating on G-“No Eazy’s Limit,” Migos’ “MotorSport,” Puerto Rican superstar Ozuna’s “La Modelo,” and releasing her second song “Bartier Cardi” in December.

Cardi B got two Grammy nominations in 2017 for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, in addition to her BET Award nominations, and performed her collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Finesse,” at the January 2018 ceremony. A few months later, she received eight nominations for the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, eventually winning the title of Top Rap Female Artist.

Privacy Invasion

Cardi B released her long-awaited first album, Invasion of Privacy, on April 6, 2018. Along with songs that fans were previously familiar with, the album featured collaborations with Migos and 21 Savage. Because of the earlier success of “Bodak Yellow,” Invasion of Privacy was already eligible for a Gold certification at the time of its release, but within a few days, it had already established a new standard for activity on Apple Music, smashing Taylor Swift’s previous record for most streams by a female artist in an album’s first week.

Cardi B made history again in July when her single “I Like It” from Invasion of Privacy debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first female rapper to do it twice.

Cardi B released her second collaboration with Mars, “Please Me,” in February 2019, and won the Best Rap Album Grammy for Invasion of Privacy, making her the first solo woman to do so. Cardi received Album of the Year accolades at the BET Awards in June, just after the release of another song, “Press.”

That September, the artist made her feature film debut in Hustlers, co-starring with Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu as a stripper named Diamond.

Offset and Cardi B

After dating for eight months, Migos member Offset proposed to Cardi B in October 2017 at a concert in Philadelphia. “She’s pretty solid, she comes from where I came from, and she accomplished what I did,” he told Rolling Stone. “She’s her own person, guy. I’ve seen her rise from the trenches to the top… I admire her determination as a woman. She arrived at the game armed with some gangsta s*t.”

The joyous news of the couple’s engagement swiftly became sensational, as allegations of Offset’s infidelity spread like wildfire. Cardi B, on the other hand, openly defended her fiancée, reminding fans that everyone approaches relationships differently.

Following weeks of rumors that she was pregnant, Cardi B confirmed the news by flaunting her baby bulge on Saturday Night Live in April 2018. She exclaimed, “I’m finally free!” after rejoining pals backstage, relieved that she no longer had to conceal the news. She announced in May 2018 that she was expecting a daughter.

Following that, the rapper canceled a series of planned spring and summer performances, stating that the late April Broccoli City Festival in Washington, D.C. would be her penultimate performance before joining Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour in September.

Cardi B Kid Kulture

Cardi B addressed another allegation in June, after attending a baby shower in Atlanta, by revealing on Twitter that she and Offset had secretly married in September 2017—one month before his public proposal at her performance. “We found someone to marry us, and she did so with just the two of us and my cousin. “I said I do, with no dress, no makeup, and no ring!” she tweeted, adding, “Well now that you lil nosey f**ks know, you can stop thinking I had a baby out of wedlock.””

Cardi B gave birth to her baby Kulture Kiari Cephus on July 10, 2018, and announced the news to followers the next day on Instagram.

Cardi B said on Instagram in late July that she was canceling her planned autumn tour with Mars, confessing that she had “underestimated the whole parenting thing.” Mars responded with unqualified support, saying she was “definitely doing the right thing” and promising to perform “Bodak Yellow” in her honor while on tour.

Cardi B and Offset confirmed their breakup in December 2018. “So everyone has been bothering me and everything, and you know I’ve been trying to work things out with my baby father for a hot minute now,” she stated in an Instagram video. “And we are very close friends and really excellent business partners — you know, he’s always somebody I rush to, to speak to, and we have a lot of affection for each other, but things haven’t been working out between us for a long time.”

Despite their marital problems, the pair had reconciled by early 2019. Cardi filed for divorce from Offset in September 2020, but the pair subsequently reunited.

Cardi B Indictment and Arrest

Cardi B surrendered to New York City police on October 1, 2018, in connection with an August 2018 strip club brawl in Queens, New York, in which she reportedly ordered her crew to attack two bartenders. The rapper was detained and charged with assault and reckless endangerment, both misdemeanors.

After declining a plea offer, a grand jury indicted Cardi in June 2019 on two counts of felony attempted assault, as well as six felonies and six infractions. During a trial for Brooklyn-born hip hop musician 6ix9ine later that summer, the rapper named Cardi B as a member of New York City’s Nine Trey Gangster Bloods. Cardi later denied any involvement with the group.

Cardi B’s Butt Injection Story Shows How Dangerous Illegal Cosmetic Surgery Can Be

Genetics, a fitness, and diet program tailored to that objective, and cosmetic surgery choices are just a few of the variables that might lead to a larger butt. However, we would not advocate injectable fillers from anybody other than a certified medical expert in a medical environment.

Cardi B claimed in a recent interview with GQ that she received butt injections in someone’s basement for $800 approximately four years ago. “It was the craziest agony ever,” the 25-year-old remembered of the agonizing surgery, which she claims had no numbing agents. “I thought I was going to pass out. I was feeling a bit dizzy.” The Bronx-raised artist claimed she had leakage for around five days after the injection.

Cardi B’s cautionary story is a nightmare scenario, but illicit and hazardous butt injections are more frequent than you would imagine.

“I’m telling you, we hear about this type of stuff every couple of weeks,” says Peter Taub, M.D., professor of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (who did not treat Cardi B).

In November 2017, the FDA issued a statement alerting customers about the risks of the procedure, adding that they have “investigated and punished unlicensed clinicians giving these injections all throughout the country.” However, because these incidents tend to go undetected, it is impossible to determine how frequently this occurs.

So, what exactly is prohibited in the realm of cosmetic surgery? Anyone who conducts a medical treatment without a license, in an unregulated nonmedical setting, or with items not approved for medical use, according to Dr. Taub, is engaging in criminal activity.

It is also unlawful to mislead a customer by impersonating a medical practitioner or misrepresenting a product to a patient—for example, stating it is an FDA-approved substance or usage when it is not. (While off-label use of an FDA-approved drug is not strictly unlawful in and of itself, it is a red flag in instances like these.)

There are three types of buttock cosmetic surgery alternatives, which have grown increasingly popular as a result of what Dr. Taub refers to as a “trend in fuller buttock regions of late.”

The conventional lift involves the surgeon removing extra sagging skin and occasionally a little amount of fat to elevate and tighten the buttock. Then there’s implant-based augmentation, in which a silicone implant is put either on top of or under the muscle to give volume to the area (similar to a breast implantation operation).

The final kind is commonly referred to as the Brazilian butt lift, which, despite its name, is really another sort of augmentation. The surgeon transplants fat from another region of the body (often the stomach or thighs) and injects it into the buttocks to change their size and contour.

In all of these circumstances, there is a danger of infection since “it is difficult to guarantee full sterility in a big region like the buttocks,” according to Dr. Taub. There is also the possibility that an implant would burst and leak silicone, which can move elsewhere in the body and cause significant problems such as blood clots. However, because you are being treated by licensed medical experts in a sterile setting, the risks of problems are reduced.

The sort of operation Cardi B underwent, on the other hand, is another kind of gamble entirely. The artist mentions in the interview that she didn’t have enough extra fat on her body to undergo fat grafting, so it appears she had some type of synthetic filler instead.

“That’s probably the worst thing you could do,” Dr. Taub adds. He claims that procedures involving the injection of large amounts of synthetic fillers into the buttocks are so dangerous and ill-advised that no legitimate surgeon would perform them, which is why they are typically performed by “unqualified providers posing as doctors or licensed health care practitioners in non-clinical settings such as residential homes or hotels,” as the FDA puts it.

Procedures conducted outside of medical institutions (like in Cardi B’s case) are frequently performed without anesthetic or sedation, which can make the process exceedingly unpleasant. Furthermore, the current risk of infection is multiplied tenfold by the lack of a sterile atmosphere and equipment. Then there’s the reality that you have no idea what precisely is going into you. (In previous cases of uncontrolled butt injections gone awry, industrial-grade silicone and cement were used, for example.) Even if the material they’re employing is approved for another use, such as medical-grade silicone or FDA-approved fillers, it’s not allowed for this one.

In contrast to silicone implants, which keep the liquid contained in a shell, injectable silicone oil can float freely throughout the tissue.

According to the FDA, injected silicone oil can break up into little pieces and travel throughout the body, causing lasting harm and life-threatening consequences such as embolism, stroke, and even death. (According to the FDA warning letter, it is only approved for certain applications in the eye.) A granuloma—an inflammatory response in the tissue where your body tries to wall off a foreign material by building strong tissue around it—can grow months or years after surgery, causing pain, inflammation, and deformity.

According to Dr. Taub, the second main risk with injected silicone is a severe infection. Abscesses (pockets of pus surrounded by inflammatory tissue) can occur throughout the buttocks as a result of an infection. “Every tiny spot that becomes infected can generate a draining sinus,” a little tube formed when an abscess attempts to drain to the surface. This might lead to the leaking that Cardi B highlighted in her interview.

Dr. Taub believes that if antibiotics do not work, a surgeon may be required to drain all of the sinus cavities. This entails opening up the skin, scooping out the pus and stray clumps of silicone (if they can see it), and keeping the wounds open for several weeks to allow the regions to properly drain and recover. Dr. Taub likens it to cleaning sand grains from a shag carpet. “It’s simply a morbid surgery you wouldn’t want to go through,” he adds. “It’s really untidy, and it’s not a good solution.”

Another popular black-market approach is to inject huge amounts of dermal fillers, which are only FDA-approved for repairing creases and lines on the face and back of the hands. “Fillers are suitable for modest volumes in the face when done [in a sterile manner] by a competent medical practitioner, but [not] bigger volumes in problematic regions by unskilled people,” Dr. Taub adds.

If you’ve already undergone this operation, you should consult a board-certified cosmetic surgeon right away to have them assess you and discuss your alternatives.

Be on the lookout for indications of an infection (redness, swelling, or draining at the site) or a major consequence (pain, deformed tissue, shortness of breath, or stroke symptoms), which might occur months or years later. Surgical intervention can be dangerous, and it is only necessary and successful in particular circumstances. “So, if everything is good, I would leave it alone and not perform any [further injections],” Dr. Taub advises.

And, if you’ve been thinking about changing your appearance with cosmetic surgery, consult with a licensed surgeon connected with a genuine medical practice. You can’t claim that Cardi didn’t warn you.
